Franco, 47, oldest player to homer in MLB game

SAN DIEGO -- Julio Franco became the oldest player in major league history to hit a home run on Thursday night when he connected for a two-run, pinch-hit shot in the eighth inning at San Diego.

Franco, 47, drove a 1-0 pitch from reliever Scott Linebrink into the home-run porch down the right-field line at Petco Park.

The previous oldest player to homer was Athletics pitcher Jack Quinn, who was 46 years, 357 days old when he homered on June 27, 1930.

Franco already was the oldest player to hit a pinch-hit homer. He has four career pinch-hit homers.

I love to see this guy have success. He's a great role model for all kids. If they can stay in shape & work hard. Along with a little luck.. they can have a long, fun-filled career. Franco still looks like he enjoys the game just as much as he did when he was a 25 year old INF. He has been very well traveled, yet fans from all over still love & respect this guy for his ability to be a leader & set the tone as a hard worker. I'm glad he set this milestone tonight.... He's the anti-Bonds, the anti-Giambi, the anti-Sosa.
