Who would you pick? I picked LeBron James for his efforts.
For those who think that Kobe deserved it... well I don't know because remember when Michael Jordan was averaging 38 points in a season and he was a candidate for the MVP. He was dominating everybody but his team wasn't and Magic Johnson got the MVP. Then again if you go by the number of every plays such as pts, assists, steals, rebounds... LeBron got that, not Kobe since Kobe was ball hogging most of the time. :lol:

Well whats your guess on who should get the MVP? The others in mind were Nowitzki, Nash, Wade, Billups...

Look at their stats and you decide who should.. don't pick because of the player is your favorite. The reason why I chose LeBron to be the MVP is because of his stats and no he wasn't my favorite player.

sure you can say kobe fuckin carries his team but mvp stands for most valuable player..that doesn't mean a player who averages over 35+ with "no help" should automatically get the award

mvp players should be from an elite team..players who make their teammates better..sure kobe is probably the best player this year when it comes to individual statistics and talents but as a team player definitely not the most valuable player..don't give me "he has no one"..lamar odom was a force in miami with wade and also as a clipper in his early years..look at caron butler last year in LA and look at him now in washington

btw don't give me smush parker to back up the words cuz i saw him play a couple of games..esp the game i went to last season against bobcats with billups suspended and him playing..he is good and talented but our team was stacked so he couldn't stay here

Suns star Steve Nash will be named the NBA's Most Valuable Player for a second straight season, according to a league source familiar with the voting.

The announcement may not come for two weeks, like last season's May 8 ceremony. The votes have been tabulated in what was expected to be a close race with LeBron James, Dirk Nowitzki, Chauncey Billups and Kobe Bryant.

Nash won the fourth-closest MVP vote last year, edging Shaquille O'Neal a year after Nash was not even an All-Star.

Nash, 32, impressed voters this season by posting career highs in scoring (18.8 points per game), rebounding (4.2 per game), field goal percentage (.512) and free-throw percentage (NBA-best .921). He led the league in assists again with 10.5 per game and finished sixth in three-point shooting (43.9 percent).

After Amaré Stoudemire's knee surgery deprived the Suns of their top scorer, Nash led the team to 54 wins and its first repeat division title with only Shawn Marion and Leandro Barbosa back for a full season.

Nash would be the first international and Suns player to win twice.

Only nine previous players repeated as MVP winners. Magic Johnson was the only point guard to do so.

Nash is gonna win it. If it were up to me, Kobe has been the most important player to his team and has been the best player in the league today. When you look back 10 years from now, you are gonna remember how Kobe was the man nobody wanted to guard. LeBron has put the Cavs on his back, and it really is a toss up between those two in my opinion. The only reason Nash is getting this year's MVP is bc he is white and NBA bigwigs want to appeal to white america. Tell me you don't see Stern wanting to make the league more appealing to white america (dress code ie).

LeBron is dirty. If I had the first pick to pick any player in the league to start a team, it would be him (only bc he is so young). Kobe imo is the best player in the league though.

I was reading in the paper as well that some Arizona paper with an inside source leaked that Nash is going to win it this year. But here's something to think about. Like Izzy said, in 10 years, you're gonna remember Kobe.

Bill Simmons said it best. When choosing the MVP, you gotta think about the player who sticks out most in your mind. In 10 years, I won't really remember this as a great Lebron season (which it was, the dude broke out), but as a Kobe season. Dude, Kobe got the Lakers into the playoffs with some shit team in the WESTERN conference.

Lebron got his shit team into the playoffs in the EASTERN conference, and if you don't see the difference, then explain why half the teams in the East are below 500 but still in the playoffs?

LeBron is a flawed player. He pads his stats alot, Ive watched him all year do that. He is very versatile but he is not good in the clutch, and is not a good defender at all. But he is a great finisher.

Kobe has been extremley effecicent on both ends of the floor. He has scored 40 points like 26 times? Do you how many times the guy he has defended has put up that much?

0.

Kobe is a complete player, makes his teammates better too, its not his fault that they are young and inexperienced. He turned Kwame Brown around, he turned Sasha into a shooter. He brings confidence to the Lakers that they dont have without him. Replace Kobe with a good guard like Jamal Crawford and you get a 10 win team. Kobe is worth 30 wins himself.

Kobe wont get it because the MVP is a popularity contest, just like the Gold Glove in baseball it is a dumb award now because who votes for it.

Ay hai!
Yes I know that there has been a lot of anti-Kobe talk in this forum. :lol: But he has been called self centered, selfish, overrated, a ball hog, flashy (I assume with no substance), etc. And we're only talking about off the court... alright I am kidding! But anyway, I wanted to do a comparison to current and past players to see just how much a ball hog Kobe is compared to others.

Here are their Minutes/Field Goal Attempts per game for 2006

1. Kobe Bryant 41/ 27.2 fga/35.4 ppg
2. Allen Iverson 43.1/ 25.3 fga/ 33.0 ppg
3. Lebron James 42.5/ 23.1 fga/31.4 ppg
4. Gilbert Arenas 42.3/20.8 fga/29.3 ppg
5. Dwayne Wade 38.7 / 18.8 fga/ 27.2
6. Paul Pierce 39/ 18.5/18.5/26.8 ppg
7. Dirk Nowitzki 38.2 / 19.3 fga/ 26.6
8. Carmelo Anthony 36.8/ 19.6 fga/ 26.5 ppg
9. Michael Redd 39.2/19.0/25.4 ppg
10. Ray Allen 38.7/19.2 fga/ 19.2/ 25.1 ppg

Here are the averages for the top ten players
Mins=39.95 (KB=41)
FGA=21.08 (KB=27.2)
PPG=28.67 (KB=35.4)

Kobe average 6 more shots than the top 10 players and used it to score 7 more points, with playing an average of 1 minute more than the top ten players. So with that extra minute of play, Kobe is putting up about 7 more points, more than what some NBA players average per game. Here's another way to look at it. If the average NBA player is shooting about 45% and he takes those 6 shoots from Kobe and hits 3 of them. He would only average 6 points, 1 less point than what Kobe does with those same shots.

Here's how Kobe stacks up against some of the retired greats.
Minutes/FGA/PPG

<>Kobe Bryant 41/ 27.2 fga/35.4 ppg (2006 Season Stats)
(Free Throws 696-819)

1. Michael Jordan 38.3/NA/30.1 ppg
2. Jerry West NA/NA/27.0 ppg
3. Isaiah Thomas 36.3/NA/19.2 ppg
4. Bernard King 33.7/NA/22.5
5. Dr. J NA/NA/22.0
6. Dominique Wilkins 35.5/NA/24.8
7. Larry Bird 38.4/NA/24.3

The year that Michael Jordon averaged 35.0 ppg, he averaged 40.4 mpg and 24.36 FGA per game. (Free Throws 723-860)

The year Michael Jordan averaged 37.1 ppg, he averaged 40.0 mpg and 27.8 FGA per game. (Free Throws 833-972)

In 1986-87 Michael Jordan shot .6 times more than what Kobe shot that year. Was he more efficient? Sure he average 1.7 more points that Kobe, but he also took 153 more free throws attempts adding 110 points to his total points that year than Kobe...for the lames...he scored more points that year.

What does all this tell us? I have to focus more at my job and get a life? Well yeah of course, but it also tells us that Kobe is not the first player to average 27 FGAPG or as some of you would say...be "self-centered or selfish".

But remember Kobe wanted Shaq off the team so he could start ballhogging with more points. The Lakers won the title because they had Shaq. Shaq gone, no Championships... And no playoffs in the first post-Shaq era might I add. Stats can be used to scew things as well. Compare MJ's laters years to Kobe's later years. MJ learned he needed his teammates to win a championship and when he grasped that he started winning them, Kobe hasn't learned that.
